All these difficulties one can explain through the interdisciplinary nature of culturology. I would like to discuss two questions: i) Culturology as “pizza” or “okroshka”, in which achievements of different sciences (sociology, psychology, economics, political science, art criticism, history, ethnography) are used, or now we can speak about some elements of independent culturology. For example, there would exist methods of culturological knowledge which make culturology different from any other kind of knowledge – psychology, sociology, or ethnography? ii) Has culturology some hard, exact kernel?

For a long time I have had a cool opinion of culturology as a phenomenon of post-Soviet, Russian culture, a cultural phenomenon with the name “culturology”, because this term does not exist in Anglo-American academic literature, there is the term “cultural studies”, and the term “culturology” appeared in the Socialist camp. Lesly White used this term first, but this term has not become accepted in the English language.
